Wilo Group, a renowned German manufacturer of pumps and pump systems, is reinvigorating its presence in Kenya by establishing an assembly plant in Nairobi. This strategic move is fueled by the company’s recognition of the burgeoning opportunities in the country’s high-rise construction projects and the government’s affordable housing initiatives. Over the past five years since its subsidiary was set up in Nairobi, Wilo Group has successfully collaborated on notable projects like the Central Bank of Kenya Towers, Imaara Mall, and the impressive BBS Mall, the largest in East Africa.

The inauguration of the new assembly plant marks a significant milestone for Wilo East Africa. Belete Matebe, the Managing Director of Wilo East Africa, emphasizes the plant’s role in enhancing their ability to offer localized solutions and conduct witness testing in accordance with the International Organization for Standardization. This, in turn, empowers them to contribute effectively to sustainable development in the region.

In addition to boosting the local economy, the company is dedicated to empowering the youth in the area through job opportunities, certified training programs, and seminars. Wilo East Africa is committed to fostering knowledge-sharing within the industry by establishing a training center in collaboration with the Wilo Academy. This center will offer valuable workshops and training sessions to professionals and students in the field. Furthermore, discussions are underway with the Kenya Water Institute (KEWI) to create specialized certified programs for students focusing on pump selection and digitalization. Additionally, tailored school competitions will be introduced to inspire students to embrace innovation within the water sector.

With the new assembly plant in Nairobi, Wilo East Africa is now well-positioned to produce booster sets, end suction pumps, firefighting pumps, control panels, borehole pumps, and various other applications. The company aims to extend its reach to neighboring East African countries by exporting these products from Nairobi.

Moreover, this technological advancement enables Wilo to offer tailored solutions in Water and Sanitation (WASH), catering to communities lacking access to clean drinking water. The company will introduce water kiosks, mini cubes, aqua cubes, and the Portable Aqua Unit for Lifesaving (PAUL) backpack to address this critical need.

Wilo East Africa boasts a wealth of reference projects across Ethiopia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Sudan, showcasing its expertise in diverse applications.

In summary, the establishment of the assembly plant in Nairobi marks a new era for Wilo Group, allowing them to seize the opportunities in Kenya’s construction sector, offer localized solutions, and make a positive impact on the water and sanitation challenges faced by communities in the region.
