US Ambassador Meg Whitman Advocates for Kenya’s Economic Growth

Share

At the AmCham Business Summit in Nairobi, US Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, outlined key strategies to bolster Kenya’s economic standing within Africa.

Whitman emphasized the potential of Kenya’s manufacturing sector to drive economic expansion, particularly in apparel exports to the US. To achieve this, she underscored the importance of revitalizing cotton farming and sustained GDP growth of six to eight percent annually.

Acknowledging Kenya’s entrepreneurial spirit, Whitman highlighted the nation’s attractiveness for business ventures. She also identified tourism and the creative industry as growth areas.

Rebecca Miano, Kenya’s Trade, Investment, and Industry Cabinet Secretary, echoed Whitman’s sentiments, emphasizing collaboration with the US to address trade barriers and enhance investment opportunities.

Miano expressed optimism about the renewal of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) and ongoing negotiations for a strategic trade partnership with the US.

As Kenya progresses towards economic prosperity, partnerships with international allies like the US are poised to play a pivotal role.
