Egypt’s food exports to the United States have experienced a notable increase, reaching $67 million in the first quarter of 2024. This marks a 22% rise compared to the $54.9 million recorded in the same period last year, reflecting growing demand for Egyptian food products in the American market, which now represents approximately 4% of Egypt’s total exports.
Strategic Initiatives and Market Engagement
The Food Export Council of Egypt has played a crucial role in driving this growth through targeted initiatives and strategic participation in key industry events. One such initiative was the participation of 45 Egyptian companies in the Summer Fancy Food Show, organized with the support of the Egypt Expo & Convention Authority (EECA). This event provided a significant platform for Egyptian exporters to showcase their products to a broad audience of American buyers and importers.
Of the 45 companies, 31 exhibited their products under the Egyptian pavilion, while an additional 14 companies were featured in a separate pavilion in collaboration with the Export Council and the USAID TRADE project. The show highlighted a diverse range of products, including frozen vegetables and fruits, pasta, sweets, snacks, canned goods, juices, tomato sauce, concentrates, dairy products, cheeses, honey, jams, cooking oils, olives, olive oil, pickles, and more.
Promoting Bilateral Trade
To further promote Egyptian food products in the US, the Food Export Council worked closely with the Egyptian Commercial Service and its Washington office. This collaboration facilitated the engagement of major American importers, who were invited to visit the Egyptian pavilion and explore potential partnerships with exhibiting companies.
Expanding International Reach
Beyond trade shows, the Food Export Council also organizes trade missions to international markets, particularly those that lack specialized exhibitions. These missions, conducted in partnership with the Egyptian Commercial Service and marketing experts, aim to connect Egyptian exporters with serious importers, thereby enhancing market access and supporting Egypt’s broader export objectives.
Conclusion
The significant 22% growth in Egyptian food exports to the United States in the first quarter of 2024 underscores the effectiveness of the strategic initiatives implemented by the Food Export Council. This positive trend highlights the increasing popularity of Egyptian food products in the American market and bodes well for the future of Egypt’s food export sector.
