In a significant stride towards enhancing digital infrastructure in Africa, Dr. Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, has lauded the recent partnership between G42 and Microsoft in Kenya. Describing it as “just the beginning,” Dr. Al Zeyoudi emphasized the collaboration’s potential to drive technological innovation and economic growth in the region.
Announced earlier this year, the partnership between G42, a leading AI and cloud computing company, and Microsoft aims to accelerate Kenya’s digital transformation. This initiative is set to create job opportunities and foster advancements in key sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, and education.
During his visit to Washington, Dr. Al Zeyoudi highlighted Africa’s significance in the UAE’s trade policy. “Africa holds immense potential, and we are committed to supporting its economic growth through strategic partnerships and investments,” he stated. The UAE delegation attended the SelectUSA Investment Conference, reflecting the country’s strategy to strengthen economic ties with the United States. With over 1,500 American companies operating in the UAE, trade relations between the two nations remain strong. Recent engagements, including a meeting between Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE National Security Advisor, and US officials, underscore efforts to bolster these economic and security ties.
The UAE’s focus on non-oil trade has played a pivotal role in its economic expansion. Dr. Al Zeyoudi remarked, “Our non-oil trade strategy is essential for our economic resilience. By fostering global partnerships, we diversify our economy and contribute to technological progress.”
The G42-Microsoft partnership is expected to serve as a model for future collaborations in Africa. Combining their expertise, both companies aim to address challenges in developing economies, thereby accelerating digital growth and improving lives across Kenya and the continent.
“This partnership marks a promising start. We are eager to see the positive impact it will have on Kenya and the broader region,” Dr. Al Zeyoudi concluded.
